Wow.

Time flies. I had almost forgotten carbon paper and carbon copies. (Onion skin paper, etc)

YES - They were usually of poor quality - especially compared to what we enjoy now.

I have done a good deal of research and my father always told me he started as a co-pilot and ended up a pilot in Molesworth during WWII. I think I have found why I could never see any of his missions as a pilot.

I found that he was the only John Helms listed on the base roster, but a John E. Helms appeared on some of the missions as a pilot durning the time that he was in England. I now think that the John E. Helms should really have been John R. Helms. The E and R key are next to each other on the typewriter (computer) keyboard and I now think this is a clerical error where when these reports were typed, the E key was mistakenly keyed as opposed to the R key which would have been correct. I have even been in contact with a gentleman who said he was a bombadier on some of the missions on which my father was the pilot. I am now convinced that he flew on missions from Mission No. 180 to Mission 290 some of which as a co-pilot and some as a pilot.
