Sorry.. Perhaps a poor choice of words. I was trying to differentiate
between bombardiers and togglers.
Perhaps I've been misinformed, but I was under the impression that
there were officers trained as bombardiers, but that later in the war
the bombardiers were deemed necessary only on the lead and deputy lead
planes, and on the other planes in a squadron the bombardiers were
often replaced by "togglers" that didn't undergo quite as much training
as that which bombardiers went through.
Anyway, that's what I was trying to differentiate between, ie
bombardiers vs togglers, as I think that was the reason that
bombardiers were often pulled off crews after they reached Molesworth,
such as in this example, since the Lacker crew's bombardier was
replaced by a toggler.
