I answered my own question about Base Air Depots and Strategic Air Depots - see below. This came from another website. Bob
8th Air Force, VIII Air Service Command:
Base Air Depots:
BAD 1: Burtonwood, Cheshire.
Assembly and preparation of shipped aircraft.
Stores distribution.
Service Modifications.
Radial engine overhaul.
B-17, P-38 and P-47 modification and overhaul.
BAD 2: Warton, Lancashire.
Stores distribution.
Service Modifications.
Radial engine overhaul.
B-24 and P-51 modification and overhaul.
BAD 3: Langford Lodge, Northern Ireland.
Experimental and specialist modifications.

1st Bomb Wing/Air Division overhaul and major repair.
SAD 3: Neaton (Watton)
2nd Bomb Wing/Air Division overhaul and major repair.
SAD 4: Hitcham (Wattisham)
8th AF Fighter Command overhaul and major repair.
Below the SAD level each bomber base had a Sub-depot for day-to-day maintainance and repair tasks.

All Base Air Depots (BAD) were assigned to Air Service Command, U. S. Strategic Air Forces in Europe, later renamed Air Technical Service Command in Europe. BAD's did not have Air Depot Groups assigned to them.
The 4 Strategic Air Depots and 41 Sub Depots listed above, were assigned to VIII AFSC. Each SAD had 2 Air Depot Groups assigned to it.
1st SAD (9th & 40th Air Depot Gps) - Troston (375)
2nd SAD (5th & 35th Air Depot Gps) - Abbots Ripton (547)
3rd SAD (31st & 46th Air Depot Gps) - Neaton (376)
4th SAD (21st & 44th Air Depot Gps) - Hitcham (377)
Also in 1944-45, there were 6 Tactical Air Depots, each with 2 Air Depot Gps, assigned to IX AF Service Command:
1st TAD (29th & 33rd Air Depot Gps) - North Witham (479)
2nd TAD (30th & 91st Air Depot Gps) - Stansted (169)
3rd TAD (43rd & 45th Air Depot Gps) - Grove (519)
4th TAD (2nd & 42nd Air Depot Gps) - Kingston Bagpuize (403)
5th TAD (10th & 86th Air Depot Gps) - Chilbolton (404)
6th TAD (7th & 16th Air Depot Gps) - Membury (466)
The stations listed above were changed to locations on the continent between D-Day and VE-Day.
The number in parenthesis after the location is the Station Number.
