[303rd-Talk] Veterans Day

Happy Veteran's Day to everyone.
My father was in Stalag XVII-B as well. He was in barracks 37-B from
October of 1943, until they were liberated by Patton's 13 tank Regiment
near Braunau, Austria. The American forces were advancing into the
Bavarian redoubt on false rumours of a last stand in the south, after
Germany had been cut in two.
My father, Don Alton, 91st BG, was liberated by a lone jeep coming up a
logging road, that contained a few nom-coms and a captain. It was May 3,
1945. The men of XVII-B were in it to the bitter end. More than a few of
them succumbed to the March ahead of the Russians in the month of April.
Dad died in 2001, God bless him. He was a ripe old '83, and lived a real
good life.
Nice to hear Jack is out and around. He writes a lot of good stuff when
he has a mind to...heheh.

Salute,
Gordy

Norma,
Sounds like a nice event. I'm glad to hear Jack is doing well. I
haven't heard from him in a while. I'll echo your thanks to all the
veterans. We are all in their debt.

Gary
