the radio operator was a dependable crew mate when ,as  a bombardier  
/togglier, you are spread wide across open bomb bay doors releasing hung  bombs.
 one big clumsy boot pressed against outside door hinge flange and the  other 
against the bomb bay  walkway frame..
  our radio operator provided a substitute portable oxygen tank ,when  mine 
was emptying and still straddling bay opening.
 by the time you leave your nose position and reach bomb bay to  perform 
needed service the supply is draining .. that was my  experience.
