POSITION DATA INDICATOR,

It is an instrument that in the B-17's case was (I believe) driven by the
bombsight to keep the airplane on the correct heading towards the target.
I believe it was a fly-to indication - meaning a deflection to the right
means a correction to the right . The pilot was to keep it centered as best
he could to arrive at the target after leveling out at the IP ( Initial
point - the start of the bomb run)

Subject: Twelve O'Clock High

My favorite television program from 1964-1965 was Twelve O´clock High
    with Robert Lansing.
As a pilot, he speaks to the bombardier with a throat microphone and
    says:
    "Center your PDI"

    What was the PDI?
    What was the IP?

Thanks for any help you can provide.
