[303rd-Talk] Heritage Centre Molesworth

I stopped into Molesworth unannounced in 1999, spoke with the guard at the main gate and told him I was interested in the World War II history of the base. He called the CO who let me in and had Brian McGuire come up to show me around. Unfortunately, the 303rd lost Brian a few years ago, but he got me in JAC to see all of the artwork and photos from the war that adourn the hallways. As I recall, getting into JAC was a priveliedged event, and we could only wander the halls with Brian. Brian was a super guy and is sorely missed.

If there is a will, there is a way, and if you really want to tour the JAC, I would call the base commanders office at Mildenhall, as that base commander has responsibility for Molesworth. General Richard Devereaux was the commander of Mildenhall just a couple of years ago and is now in Wichita Falls, Texas. General Devereaux is a World War II historian and I am sure could offer you advice on getting into Building 100. His phone number is 940.676.2121 and his secretary's name is Stella. The General is an outstanding individual and I am sure he would be pleased to help you, although his real passion is for the 100th BG(H) at Thorpe Abbotts.

  hi Gordon
it is sad to say that the heritage center that was set up in 1993 by the first

JAC Commander has gone and all paintings and memorabilia moved to building 100

as this is one of the most secure buildings on the base and very difficult

to gain assess to unless you are a veteran or a relative of one

so unless the rules change i cannot see you being given permission to go in to that

area

the main doors with the triangle ' c ' on has just been removed so is no longer there

and the control tower was removed in 1952 so the perimeter track could be straightened

to take the new B29 stationed there

hope this helps you

Does anyone out there have a name or contact number at the USAF Joint
Analysis Centre, as the 303rd's heritage centre is in some of their buildings.
There is a lot of 303rd memorabilia at Molesworth as shown on pages 741 to 744
in
in the 303rd diary by Harry D Gobrecht. I would love to be able to see this
collection of original oil paintings and the carved desk lids showing
squadron insignia. There's also a hanger with the red triangle and 'C' still
painted on it. The control tower is still there too. Please help.

Thanks in advance.
