[303rd-Talk] 1st Lt. John C. Griggs

I'm sorry I misspoke in my first post. I'm afraid I was referring to the
group when I called it the Griggs' diary. The diary Dad has is of Lt.
Malone. I spent this evening with Dad and showed him on my laptop that his
journal was on the internet. He then asked me why the map wasn't on there?
What map I asked?
Lt. Malone made a map that has each mission route marked in detail on it.
The map is 28" X 24". Dad received a copy of this at Colorado and had it
framed. He brought it out tonight and I took several pictures of it. I will
transfer to a .pdf file and send to Gary if that is ok with Gary. My Mom and
Dad both said that on the back of original that was left at the AF Academy,
there was a hand written record of each mission also. I checked the copy of
the map we have, and of course the back of the original was not copied.
The letter from the USAF Academy we have acknowledging the diaries states
that Lt. Malone's and Dad's material would be kept in the Special
Collections Branch.
Once again, sorry for the confusion with the name on the diary.

Best regards,
Jerry Monnig

Subject: Re: [303rd-Talk] 1st Lt. John C. Griggs

Chuck,
Hopefully I can clarify this somewhat.

It is my understanding that Lt. John Griggs never had a diary. I have
spoken
with his wife and family and John never had a diary that he wrote.

The diary I am transcribing is Lt. William A. Malone's who was the
navigator
on John Griggs crew. The cover page says it is Malone's and his wife
presented it to the US Air Force Academy Library on 5/26/1993.

I hope this has helped in some way. I knew John Griggs and I am friends
with
his wife and family. I thought it would be nice to put this diary on the
303rd web site for everyone to see. I am still in the process of
transcribing
the diary, and I hope to be done by this weekend.

I will send to Gary Moncur and he is putting it on the web site.

Thanks,

Joe Moffa
