Hello all,
I was given a WW 11 Air Combat Diary yesterday by the widow of John C.
Griggs. John and Ruth Griggs are close friends of mine and Ruth asked me if I
wanted to read this diary. I jumped at the chance. After reading the diary I felt
sad and very proud of the young men that flew those missions over Germany
and other European countries. The diary covered daily notes of 36 missions
flown by the 303rd Bomb Group ("Hell's Angels") 427 Squadron. It gave detail
information of each mission flown by John C. Griggs, Jr. crew. I only wish all
young people today could read this diary and understand the sacrifices that
were made. These gentlemen and ladies were truly heroes. I would hope everyone
who sees a veteran would thank that person for his/her service. Knowing Jack
you would never know that he on a daily basis put his life in harms way. He
was a very happy and fun loving guy. He never did talk about the war, and I
didn't ask. I just wanted to let you all know how proud I am of all the
courageous people who over the years sacrificed to make this country free and
continue to do so.
Thanks,
Joe Moffa
