Chuck - T-309 was "Duchess's Granddaughter"Which was flown on its first
mission by the Bob Akers crew to Merseburg om July 28,'44. Would like to get
more info on where it appears. Also BN was the 359th. Herb Shanker?

Thanks for the information on the aircraft.

I have seen this plane in the series 12 O'Clock High on DVD several times. It shows the pilots side and it was photographed from the right waist gunners position from another fortress. I have seen it as well as several others in documentary aircraft shows on the history channel.

B-17 Gunner computer game has a formation of the 390th BG? as the main formation.

I can still remember the B-17's when they flew over my house in Springfield,Mass. There were times when they did flour bag bomb drops at the utility company where my father worked.? P-47's were right down the way at Bradley Field.

Guess that is why my favorites were 17's and 47's. I fly with an old pilot from the 508th BS and that is an experience in itself. Mac flew them all and retired as a Ltc. in Florida.

Chuck
