The Duchess serial number would show on the tail as 124561.

 Good Morning:

The plane I have seen in several episodes of 12 O' Clock high? was a B 17-F had a white triangle with a black C in it located on the vertical stabilizer. I do not remember if the serial No. was under the triangle.

The side view had BN-T in what looked like faded white letters. Between BN and T was was a white star on what was probably a blue background.

No chin turret. 

In one scene plane was in formation with several others. Other shot was plane by itself. 

"The Duchess" was the first B17-F I read/heard about when I was a young boy in WW 2.

There are several other planes from other Bomb Groups/Squadrons shown in the series. I have just finishes the first season and have two more seasons to view. I am sure I will see other pictures of many planes. I am going to try and pause the frame and take pictures with digital camera in the future.

Thanks for the info. I might have seen the flight that he Bombardier was awarded the CMH.
