[303rd-Talk] took a ride in B-17

My brother, his daughter, and I all took a ride in a
B-17 on Sunday. This was the one owned by the Collings
foundation, the "Nine O Nine". Wow, what a ride! For
anyone who has a relative that flew in a war bird,
there is nothing like getting a first hand experiance
for what it was like.

My impressions: it had better accelaration than I
anticipated. Very noisy, lots of rattles. An 8 hour
flight in one of those over friendly territory would
wear you out. Add enemy fighters and flak....

We took dad's navigator wings and 8th AF patch and dog
tags along for one more ride in a fortress, and we
took his Purple Heart for its first ride.
