Google has info which may be applicable, I quote
from one entry:
Canada is the only Allied country that pays specific on-going
compensation
to POW's.
POW's of any other power for 89-364 days are paid 10% and 15% if
imprisoned
for between 364 and 910 days, and 25% for 911 days and above.
Compensation seems to have been mainly introduced
for Japanese POWs who suffered a much higher rate
of death whilst in captivity, 36% as opposed to 4%
for other POWs.
Your friend might do well to apply to the Pension
authorities where he lives.
