Maurice,
In 1974, under Local Government Act 1972
Huntingdon and Peterborough merged with Cambridgeshire and the Isle of Ely
to form the new county of Cambridgeshire.
District renamed Huntingdonshire on 1st October 1984
by resolution of the district council.
Final decision made NOT to adopt Huntingdonshire later
English people being b----- minded as usual.
Small matter, the symbol above the figure 3 on your keyboard is the pound
sign, all that is necessary when
writing to me.
Cheers,
Rex.
Many counties lost their names in 1974. People living in those areas were
not best pleased and tried to bring back the old names. Some succeeded
others didn't.
