[303rd-Talk] Jewish crewmen

A friend of mine and Hal Susskind's named Nathan Mazer passed away
recently. I knew him for the past few years. Hal knew him much
longer and served with him years ago.
Nate was Jewish. He flew 17 combat missions with the 384th Bomb
Group. Later, a B-17 was named "Fightin' Hebe" in his honor. I was
reading a short article about him and it raised a question. When he
flew combat missions, he used fake dogtags with the name "Mike
McMazer" to disguise his linage for obvious reasons. I had never
heard of that. Does anyone know of any 303rd men who did the same
thing? I wonder how common it was?
I'd appreciate any comments.
Thanks,
Gary
