"One squadron let the men name a plane after their girl back home --
for as long as it took to take a photo. Then the paint was washed
off and a new name was painted on. "

Gary,

That's funny, sounds like a good fund raising scheme.

Since the 303rd files refer to "Tiny Angel" throughout, it seems reasonable to assume the name had some permanence. The reason I'm curious is that my aunt was always known to family and friends as Tiny...my Aunt Tiny. She was married to 1stLt Harry Cook who was KIA flying "Tiny Angel" on 15 August. It was the only time the Cook Crew flew this a/c on a combat mission (their 17th). Since "Tiny Angel" was gained by the 303rd about two months prior to the Cook Crew's arrival, I'm trying to find out when and by whom it was named. My aunt believed it was named after her, but it could just be a strange coincidence.

Thanks,

Keith
