Chuck,
???? We nearly always flew with?other groups. Many of them. One group usually put up 48 planes in a mission. Some times we had 1000 plane raids. Some of them would be fighterss but most of them bombers. As I remember the 1st devision consited of 3 groups. The 384th, 379th and the 303rd if my memorery is accurate.? We nearly always went with at least those three and then some.
We would usually have different targets but in the same general area. That way our fighters could be with us and we had tremendous fire power.? Be aware, B17s shot down more German fighters than any other plane in our war.? It took a lot of guts for the German fighters to attack a tight formation
of B17s.
