Bob,
Freeman does say that B-17 was assigned to the 303rd. Another 
reference book I have says it was assigned to the 379th.

The Mighty Eighth Combat Chronology mistakenly says that plane was 
shot down Feb 16, 1945 and identifies the 303rd crew. It has 
confused the serial number with the 303rd's 43-39081, which was shot 
down on that date with the crew named. I have verified it with the 
official Mission Report.

I am sure that 43-39061 was never assigned to the 303rd and was 
assigned to the 379th..
