Rex: I know there were some happy memories mixed in with all of the being away from home feelings. I have heard how Groups would invite the kids to the bases and give them treats like oranges and ice cream, not to mention a visit from Mr. Jolly himself -- old St. Nick.

I can't imagine being away from home in a war theater on Christmas Eve and Day, fighting a terrible war with all my loved ones so far away.

TO ALL THE VETERANS: If you were in theater for a Christmas, how does that affect you today? Do you have fond or bad memories from that time? Just curious.
  Bob

  Bob,
Cannot help you with the poem, but Jim Walling, now
resident in Honolulu was one such aircrew member.
His plane landed away from home base on that Christmas
Eve, and he stayed with his pilot for the next day take-off
As he said, drinking beer in a strange canteen, thinking
of his new wife of a few months home in America, he was
not a happy bunny.
Rex.
